Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix nació en Seattle (Estados Unidos) en 1942. Su infancia la vivió con su abuela y con su padre, tras la separación de sus progenitores.

Cuando tenía diecisiete años, su padre le compró su primera guitarra eléctrica. Como era zurdo, tuvo que adaptar las cuerdas de forma que le resultara más fácil tocar.Jimi Hendrix empezó a destacar como un virtuoso de la guitarra, pero se vio obligado a abandonar la escuela para ayudar a su padre en el trabajo y, finalmente, se alistó en el ejército, donde conoció a Billy Cox.Los dos amigos comenzaron a colaborar con varias bandas, recorriendo muchas ciudades a lo largo de los Estados Unidos.En 1966, uno de los miembros de 'The Animals', Chas Chandler, se fijó en él y llegaron a un acuerdo para que fuera su mánager.Juntos, crearon el grupo 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience', con el que grabaron cuatro álbums y un montón de recopilaciones y discos en directo.Anteriormente, Jimi Hendrix había colaborado como guitarrista con artistas de la talla de Sam Cooke, Ike & Tina Turner o los Isley Brothers.Uno de sus momentos cumbres lo vivió durante el concierto de Woodstock de 1969, cuando le prendió fuego a su guitarra, arrodillándose ante ella y levantando los brazos como si estuviera en trance.Las presiones de las giras y las actuaciones llevaron a Jimi Hendrix a utilizar drogas y estimulantes para mantener su nivel en los conciertos. En 1969 la banda se disolvió y Jimi Hendrix comenzó a tocar en solitario, pero sólo fue hasta el 18 de septiembre de 1970, el día en que falleció víctima de una sobredosis de heroína.La muerte le pilló trabajando en el que sería su quinto álbum, 'First Rays of The New Rising Sun'.
